Why ‘No Lemons? … we do not have clients who feel like they have been ‘sucking on a lemon’ or have contracted for a service that is ‘useless or defective’.
Advice
In most cases our clients do not understand what is involved in web design or building a website … or even what questions to ask; after all it’s not their area of expertise. You can start the journey by viewing some sample websites. At ‘No Lemons’ we offer constructive and honest advice to ensure you get the website that is right for your business. Also 'No Lemons’ websites are specially designed to provide access for people with disabilities. This helps you establish and build your presence on the web with an accessible website ... at an affordable price.
There are a number of articles covering different aspects of website design on the articles page and a series of website design lessons on the tutorials page.
Capabilities
We provide a number of different website design options to meet your specific requirements. As well as providing website design and hosting services, ‘No Lemons' can also generate the site content; copy, images, pictures, logo design etc.
We can also produce other literature such as case studies, features, business cards, advertisements and brochures; not by magic but with skill, hard work, creative flair and imagination.
Accessibility
All of our websites are designed to be easily accessible by everyone, including people with disabilities and individuals who need to use assistive technologies. Our websites are written to W3C standards and are at least WAI ‘double-A’ rated, not just because accessibility is a UK legal requirement under the Disability Discrimination Act, but we believe everyone should be able to use our websites.
'No Lemons' has three simple tests that you can use to check your website (or any other website). Request 'Website accessibility: The Absolute Minimum' by John Hookham via email. Read the article Website Accessibility and Usability by John Hookham published in 'Bulletin' or download the White Paper and Survey Website Accessibility and the Law by John Hookham. 'No Lemons' websites are also XHTML and CSS compliant.
Standards
We use rigorous quality standards in our development process to guarantee our sites are maintainable and adaptable. These standards ensure the site will operate with new technologies, browsers and operating systems. We check compatibility with the main browsers such as Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, Opera and Safari. We also run tests against lessor known browsers including; Lynx, Galeon, Mozilla, Epiphany, Konqueror, Iceape, Seamonkey, Granparadiso, Dillo, Minefield, Flock and K-Meleon.
Web Marketing (Part Two)
Part one of this series highlighted the importance of having a good website.
Equally important for a small business is to have a consistent image. This does not mean spending two million pounds with a design consultancy. But having a decent logo design, clear strapline (see below) and message etc embodied in the website, business cards and stationary builds credibility and looks more professional … and need not be expensive.
A strapline is the short phrase that best describes your business. This could be your USP – unique selling point eg "24-hour mobile chiropractor - there to get you mobile."
And having a professionally printed postcard advertisement in your local library or shop should be complemented by a website in the same style, with the same message. This attention to detail shows that you take your business, and therefore your clients, seriously.
