Copywriting

Question? What is 'copy' and 'copywriting'? Answer. Copy is media or print jargon for material that is suitable for publication. Good copywriting is the art of taking the mundane or ordinary and while retaining all of the relevant information, making the article clear and interesting for the reader.

Many companies and organisations use their technical people to write features and articles for their websites. These employees are invariably well educated and knowledgeable experts in their field, but this does not mean they can produce easy-to-read informative copy.

Journalists are often experts in their subject matter, they tend to be excellent researchers and fact finders, but newspapers and magazines employ sub-editors to ensure that their journalists' copy reads well (and is also not defaming or libellous).

At ‘No-Lemons’ will take your technical content and existing marketing materials together with other information and data to produce concise website content. We can also produce features which have been published in a wide range of media, including popular magazines such as Elle and Zest together with specialist technical journals such as Conspectus, Bulletin and Electrical Review.

Professionally written articles and features tailored for your website ensures your company and its products are presented in the best possible way to new prospects and existing customers. This will generate good quality sales opportunities, enhanced market awareness, build confidence to help to convert those sales opportunities into orders.

This effective marketing program can be achieved by either through publication in the technical press or via general marketing channels such as the website. So although it is important to have a website that looks good it needs to be supplemented by good content ie interesting and informative copy.

Web Marketing (Part Two)

Part one of this series highlighted the importance of having a good website.

Equally important for small business is to have a consistent image. This does not mean spending two million pounds with a design consultancy. But having a decent logo design, clear strapline (see below) and message etc embodied in the website, business cards and stationary builds credibility and looks more professional … and need not be expensive.

A strapline is the short phrase that best describes your business. This could be your USP – unique selling point eg "24-hour mobile chiropractor - there to get you mobile."

And having a professionally printed postcard advertisement in your local library or shop should be complemented by a website in the same style, with the same message. This attention to detail shows that you take your business, and therefore your clients, seriously.
